Final Music Video

This is our final music video with all the effects placed onto the video. We produced the video in a software called After Effects the imported it into Final Cut and edited the effects in once the Video was in time with the music, which was also imported into Final Cut.

Converting and editing

I took all the clips and using the shot listen cut the clips down to the correct time in the video.

This is a print screen of me converting the my video into a quicktime movie, this allows me put into after effects where all the clips will be placed together and effects added to create our final video

This is the editing process in After effects. This is a long going process as it takes time to get the video in time with the music.

Experiment

This Clip was only an experiment, seeing what we could do with the rough footage we already have.
We tried to recreate a stop start motion that the white stripes have used in previous music video's. This was done by taking a two different strums of the bass and guitar and duplicated them over and over again.

Here is a video we made in a different style to see what other styles we could possible do. However we used a different song in order to make this video. Tommy Gun by Royal Republic.

Production schedule

This is a picture of the production schedule, this is a plan of when we will meet up, the people who are meeting up, the time and date plus the equipment. We also highlight possible problems with what could go wrong.

Booking Form

this form was needed as we wouldn't be able to film without filling out the booking form.

Mood board

This is our mood board, this is to represent what kind of feelings we are trying to convey though our music video, what kind of key items, locations and themes in the video that will be covered. Some of these are our side locations to indoor locations jumping between them. It will also include a focus on the instruments and the musicians to emphases the ability of the musicians and shows off there ability to play there instruments.

Researching Song choose

Here below are 3 different Indie rock music videos, they all show similar connotations of in which they all use the typical performance and then a have a narrative which us similar though out all of these videos but the narrative seems to revolve around the performance, this is a connotation of Indie rock music videos. Each video has it's own unique spin on it like in Kaiser Chiefs Ruby they have the city building up around them which I suppose is technically a narrative but it doesn't tell much of a story. The Strokes Reptilia does this again with there constant use of close ups, my point is that we will be using some of the connotations from Indie rock music videos but we will again be putting our own spin on the typical performance.

Recreation shots.

These areas are the places where we are going to Shoot the footage for our music video. We choose these locations as the had a clear background where it is clear who is performing. The also makes it more performance based, just like other videos done by the white stripes.
Brick wall

Stair case

Under a tree

Sitting/standing by a street

Risk Areas To Be Assessed

This is a risk assessment that we carried out to determine what possible risks we might encounter during filming, these could include, pyrotechnics, the use of animals or children, if we use temporary structures or not and so on, there is more detail in the actual forms below.

We did a rick assessment to ensure the safety of us filming and making sure all the equipment does not get damaged. It also covers the safety of us around when filming.

Camera shots exercise

Fish eye / Wide shot

Depth of Field

Birds eye view

Low Angle shot

Here are a few shots that i think should shots

Looking through the kick drum

High view concert shot

Wardrobe and style

The wardrobe will be mainly dark clothing as it will be clear who is the main focus in each scene, whether we are filming on the street, on a stair case or in front of a brick wall. The clothing could possible be a dark pair of trousers and a dark T-shirt.
The style of clothing should be of a casual dress sense, so nothing to smart, (shirt, tie and work trousers) and nothing that seems to fit a different genre.

Hardest Button to button lyrics

We started living in an old house
My ma gave birth and we were checking it out
It was a baby boy
So we bought him a toy
It was a ray gun
And it was 1981
We named him Baby
He had a toothache
He started crying
It sounded like an earthquake
It didnt last long
Because I stopped it
I grabbed a rag doll
And stuck some little pins in it
Now were a family
And were alright now
We got money and a little place
To fight now
We dont know you
And we dont owe you
But if you see us around
I got something else to show you
Now its easy when you dont know better
You think its sleazy?
Then put it in a short letter
We keep warm
But theres just something wrong when you
Just feel like youre the hardest little button
To button
I had opinions
That didnt matter
I had a brain
That felt like pancake batter
I got a backyard
With nothing in it
Except a stick
A dog
And a box with something in it
The hardest button to button(x7)
*background: The hardest button to button (x3)

we have used 4 different clips to create a the video and have used the beat of the music and the instruments to try and make it a sucessful and entertaining video.

Flow chart

This flow chart is used to represent our storyboard. This is showing what kind of shots we will be using and the kind of transitions that we will be using in between, The video will consist of mostly different clips being put over other clips to make them look like transitions when they aren't actually proper transitions.

Audience research

Here are some examples of audience research, the images of people in crowds shows that The White Stripes have a fan base and the tweeter feed shows again that they have a fan base that want to keep up to date with what the band are doing and so they can get information on tour dates and merchandise etc.

Here is some audience research that I conducted on facebook, I asked "If you listen to The White Stripes, how often would you listen to their music?" And gave them several choices, some where added by some people later and they gave me an range of different answers. Some people didn't listen to them at all and some listened to them to a small degree, others like myself listen to them quite regularly, This could show that there music perhaps isn't as popular as it was when it first came out or I don't know many die hard White Strips fans.
Then I asked another question on Facebook asking, "How do you feel about the Indie Rock genre as a whole?" when I asked this question I got more answers then I did for perhaps the last question

This is the idea we had for our music video.
We did not create a story board as this would be a better understanding on what the finished music video might look like.
In this short section of video, we used two layers and made one smaller. We then brought the smaller one larger to fill the screen to give it the look as we are zooming into the placeholder. This will continue throughout the music film zooming in and out of different place holders.

Music video treatment

Treatment for my music video.

“Hardest button by button” by the white stripes. White Stripes play alternative Rock, so the music have a high tempo and a fairly fast beat.

We will start my video by having a medium close up shot with Will in the camera frame in front of a blank wall with a single or multiple placeholder on the wall behind him, (any colour background, making sure the colour doesn’t clash with the colour of the card for the placeholders) then have them touch the edge of the placeholder and the music while start.
Within the placeholder will be someone or myself playing an instrument in time with the music as it plays.

When an instrument stops that corresponding placeholder with that instrument in will be covered by moving in front of it, or touching the each of the holder to turn that frame off, to indicate the instrument isn’t there.
When the lyrics come in the placeholder with the singer will be turn on and can switch between the person in front of the placeholder the corresponding placeholder.
Each placeholder may have someone different playing each instrument or will be all the same person playing every instrument.
The get the Footage in the placeholder, i will be shooting each instrument separately in front of a white wall so it is clear to see what is going in in that placeholder.

The Style of dress will be that of a casual teenager, however we might try to add the effect of the white stripes by adding contrasting colors into it. E.g. black and white or just black.
The lighting will natural or artificial depending on our location we shoot. we plane to work in different environment, both inside and out side.

music video analysis

The music Video for "crushcurushcrush" was film out in a barren desert area. The video also includes three people spying on the band from trinkets which form a house. The video is of the band performing as a band and not a story with the video laid over the music.
The Video has a very high cut rate, with around 223 cuts within 3mins and 10sec. (this count may not be correct) The camera has many types of movement using a lot of pans tilts, also it seems that it would be hand held camera with maybe a use of a steady cam at some parts of the video.
They use many shot sizes, close up, extreme close up, long shot, establishing shot, medium shot and low and high shots.
The lighting seems to be all natural as they are outside with the sun set behind them but addition lighting may have been added to make shadows from the sun less dark.
The Video was directed by Shane Drake, he also direct misery business.

Having a look at other music videos created by Paramore, the cut rate also seems to be fast and in time with the music and using a lot of the same shot sizes.
Crushcrushcrush by Paramore does not involve a story, unlike Misery Business which has a story which is follows the lyrics.
The lighting is recreated to imitate lighting that is the same levels within the school/college/university.

The Genre of the White stripes is Indie, however indie will mix with many genres. This music video was direct by the duo Alex Courtes And Martin Fougerol.
In a way there is only one shot but used many time using an effect to make it continues. This gives the video a never ending feeling throughout the song, only ending when the song ends.
The positioning of the lighting is in front of the band members, making them light without shadows interfering.

split screen

Slight problem with tripod, you have to keep the camera still to get the benefits of this effect.
After filming the footage we then imported the filming into final cut and used the tools to give the effect of the cars going backwards (on the right) and everything else moving forwards (on the left).

chroma key

For the Chroma key we took a music video and placed it over a Green piece of paper. We used Green as it would work effectively like like a green screen, and also having no other color clash with it.
We filmed the green piece of paper over Max's shoulder first, imported it to final cut where we are able to use chroma key to make it seem like the music video was being held.

Overcranking

1 take music video

We were experimenting with different ways to do music videos and had the chance to create a one shot video, with now pauses or cuts.
we placed a tripod in the middle of the room and had the band members stand around so the singer could move in front of the band.
It took several attempts to get the one shot video correct without any mistakes and to get the music in sync with the performance.

Making a one shot video

All of theses shots were taken to give evidence of us setting up and perfoming the one shot video. We had many takes in trying to get it near perfect.
